About Peru Sandboarding

A guide to the dunes of Peru

Peru Sandboarding is an independent guide for everyone who wants to ride a board down the dunes of Peru. Here you will find which dunes the national tourism inventory lists for sandboarding and how they compare, what it takes to reach Cerro Blanco near Nasca, where the Lima sandboarding days go, what the desert of Paracas offers, how the dune buggy and sandboarding tours at Huacachina differ, what trips cost, what the safety rules and the official warnings say, which months suit the coast and what to wear on the sand.

The site is available in English and five additional languages. It is written first in English.

How we research

Every number on our pages comes from a source that we link to at the bottom of the page: mostly PromPeru, Peru's official tourism board, the tourism inventory of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), Peru's official gazette for the rules on adventure tourism, the consumer authority INDECOPI, the protected-area service SERNANP and the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. The month-by-month climate figures are the 1991 to 2020 normals of the San Camilo station of SENAMHI, Peru's national weather service, in the Ica valley about 6 km from the Huacachina lagoon, as filed with the World Meteorological Organization; the day length is our own calculation. Information on tours, that is duration, stops, languages, inclusions and starting prices, is taken from the offers on GetYourGuide and Viator. If a source does not provide something, we do not write it.

Listings differ in what they include, from a sled board you ride lying down to snowboards with boots and bindings, and from a short buggy ride to a full day out of Lima. That is why we tell you plainly what a listing states and what it leaves open.

How we make money

Peru Sandboarding is funded through the GetYourGuide and Viator affiliate programs. When you book through one of our links, we receive a commission; your price remains the same. There are no advertising banners here, and we do not sell your data.

Who is behind it
